This age group will be separated into two groups; walkers and non-walkers. This encourages the walkers to gain confidence in their movement while ensuring the ’non-walkers’ negotiate their surroundings in safety.

The snoozelum has been designed with peaceful, subdued colours in mind to help relax and comfort the babies at rest. Two sides of the snoozelum will be glazed, enabling the staff to have full sight of the babies sleeping at all times. Our designers have also created a beautiful twinkling Starfish on the cieling, to aid the babies to drift off to sleep. The older children will be encouraged to sleep on sleepmats in their individual base rooms.

The baby room is situated away from the outdoor play areas, giving them peaceful surroundings to play and rest in, while the toddler room has it's own access to the garden area.

Starfish under-twos will have the benefit of bright stimulating rooms with varied, age-appropriate play equipment. These will include: Soft play toys, shape sorters, beanbags, heuristic and sensory play to encourage coordination and social skills. There will also be sit and ride toys, tunnels, balls etc, to use outside. Their day will also include activities such as painting, sticking and messy play to develop their creative skills.

We will run flexible programs of activities for babies and toddlers to develop the use of their skills – always keeping you fully informed of their progress.

Nappies will be changed as often as required, not on a regulated program, as we believe at Starfish, that every child is individual and has different needs.

As your child begins to walk confidently, interaction with 2-3 year olds will be increased. This will allow a smooth progression into the next group. The timing of this will be mutually dependant on recommendations from both the key-worker and the parent.
