Our Sensory Room is designed to create a stimulating yet calming
atmosphere where the children can use all of their senses; it is particularly valuable for children with sight and/or hearing difficulties, as they become absent to the distractions of the outside world.
It aims to provide a ‘failure-free’ experience, allowing the children to explore and enjoy, without requiring specific outcomes.
The Sensory Room is a non-directive space, without rules or instructions; a chils-focused time where the interests of the child determine the activity. Time will be allocated to allow the children to explore at their own pace.
Within the Sensory room are mirrors, a variety of textures to feel, a glowing ‘aquarium’, flashing fairy lights and a beautiful twinkling Starfish ceiling light.
The EYFS curriculum is based on the children learning at their own pace and through play…the very ethos of the Starfish Sensory Room.
